Rail Live 2018 Recap

Unilite are on the right track for another successful year of trade shows, having attended Rail Live at the Quinton Rail Technology Centre in Long Marston, Stratford-upon-Avon on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st June. The annual event brings together the entire industry to showcase UK rail expertise.

From the unveiling of the UK’s first fully-operating hydrogen train prototype to counter-terrorism demonstrations from the British Transport Police’s Firearms & Dogs Unit to the hosting of the National Rail Conference, Rail Live brings together all aspects of the industry and its pioneers to showcase the latest technological innovations.

With our uncompromising pursuit of excellence driving our evolution, Unilite lead the railway charge with high quality personal lighting and illumination products. Like many exhibitors at Rail Live, Unilite showcased a number of products.

The talk of the Rail Live town though was the PS-HDL6R and the RAIL-HDL9R headlights. The RAIL-HDL9R is designed for the rail industry, with a powerful 750 Lumen output providing a powerful source of light for rail work. With an easy twist on/off switch, the RAIL-HDL9R can be operated easily with gloves and can be attached to helmets.

The PS-HDL6R has been unveiled as THE headlight of choice by Network Rail for use on the JSP Powercap® Infinity®. A walk around the grounds found the PS-HDL6R and other products at a number of stands including Safety In Numbers – a PPE supergroup comprised of JSP, Polyco, and PULSAR -, hire provider Speedy, engineering inventory suppliers Hayley, and the TSA (Track Safety Alliance).

Throughout the two days, Unilite explored the show, taking in the sights and sounds of the rail industry. Unilite experienced Vivarail’s battery-powered D-Train – which is built using the aluminium bodyshell and bogies of the now-retired London Underground Bombardier D-Stock trains – and met British Transport Police’s Mojo, who along with his handler PC Phil Healy, was the first on the scene at last years Manchester attack. Along with meeting Mojo, Unilite experienced the BTP’s Firearms & Dogs unit demonstration, where they successfully dealt with and removed an armed passenger from a train.

Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling was in attendance at the show, discussing the UK’s Industrial and Transport strategy at the National Rail Convention as well as experiencing the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Research and Education’s Hydrogen Hero – the UK’s first fuel cell locomotive.

We look forward to next years show!
