ATEX-RA2

Within the confides of hazardous environments, the greatest care has to be taken to ensure individual safety. Various electrical items, including torches, have to be ‘ATEX’ certified, ensuring their integrity within these environments and guaranteeing the units will not potentially cause an explosion. Unilite have created a range of ATEX Zone 0 lights, which will deliver this promise, along with being able to deliver powerful lighting performance.

The most powerful of the aforementioned lights is the ATEX-RA2 right angle torch. It has a 350 Lumen output from its CREE LED, which projects its beam for a maximum range of 288 metres. It is quite rare for an ATEX light to have such a powerful light, as they require so many years of testing to ensure their ATEX status. The RA2 however is able to deliver on this promise and combine both safety and power, which really is a great combination.

The way in which an ATEX torch is constructed guarantees its ATEX status. There are certain components which go into this, the first of which being its safety release valve. This releases hydrogen gases that are caused from the unit’s batteries, preventing these from causing possible explosions. The second component is its safety locking battery compartment. This works in the act of prevention, stopping any additional hazardous gases getting into the torch and potentially coming into contact with the unit’s batteries, again keeping it safe from possible explosions.

In terms of its overall construction, Unilite have always produced lights that are built to last with quality components. The RA2 is no exception to this rule and has got some great strength from these materials used and the way it has been put together. The first of these to mention is its Ultra-Strength polycarbonate housing, which provides the units external protection. The plastics used for this are both chemical and corrosion resistant, which further reinforces their use in an industrial environment. In addition to this, it has a rubberised head and side grips on its body which form both an extra layer of protection around the lens and also helps the user to grasp the light when they are using it.

If of course you would like to use the torch handsfree, then the pocket clip helps to facilitate this. For those employed by the fire service, this feature is fantastic and the addition of a strong hoop on the top of the torch enables it to be attached onto a cord if need be. An additional feature that helps those employed by the fire service, or any other heavy industries, is its easy push micro switch operation. This means it can be used by those who wear heavy gloves without the issue of not being able to turn on the unit.
